Back to the Grindstone

My Boys at Thanksgiving

We had a great time in Texas for the long weekend. We ate alot and had fun seeing all the relatives. I sure am glad to be back within a days drive of everyone.
My sister and I took Madison to Six Flags Holiday in the Park. It was fun. We rode most of the rides and had hot chocolate and they even had a man-made snow hill we sledded down.
I got one garter stitch scarf done - all 72" of it. And started another one. These are for 2 teenage girls we love and adore.
Must get back to work. I am behind after 3 days away.

KnitScene

These are the two things I think I might want to make from the new KnitScene. I might do the belt for a Christmas present for a couple of teenage girls I know.
I put away my knitting this week to concentrate on quilting the pillow tops for my sister. Even with having to attend a Relay For Life meeting last night (we are already planning next July's event), I got quite a bit of quilting done. Sat down and watched the last half of the CMA awards and quilted about 4 triangles.
Tonight is pizza night so no dishes! I can sit down as soon as homework and baths are done and sew some more - yeah!

Tonsils are Out!

Well - Cullen's surgery went verysmoothly and we are well on the way to recovery. The 3rd and 4th days were the worst. He was very cotton-mouthed and didn't want to eat or drink. We did get just enough in him to keep him hydrated.
I did get some time on Thursday night at the hospital to knit. Cullen had been drugged and he and Greg were asleep in the recliner in the hospital room. I got to watch CSI and knit. It was great after the stressful day we had.
I completed a pillow top of half triangle squares made from the Wuithering Heights fabric I bought a while back. I have it in my small portable frame and started quilting last night. I have a second one cut out and ready to piece. I plan matching pillows for my sister for Christmas.
I think I might have given up on the green vest for Cullen for Christmas pictures. I'm just not into it and I am really trying to only work on the things that bring me joy during this busy holiday season coming up.
Madison had 4H yesterday and was elected VP for this year. We have to start on a new project soon and I am trying to steer her towards the sewing/knitting project.

Anybody looked at this?

http://www.etsy.com/

I just saw on Knitters Review forum that some folks are putting their wares on Etsy for sale.
Two days and counting til Tonsils and Adnoids are gone! I have Madison farmed out to a friend for a sleepover Thursday night and am almost caught up enough at work to not feel bad about not being here 2 days. My question of the day is -- how do we keep Cullen sane from midnight until his 10:30 a.m. surgery without anything to drink or eat? He will be crazy without his morning "mulk" to drink.

Goodbye Tonsils and Adnoids

This week will be a total wash as far as getting ANYTHING done. We have to be at Oklahoma City Mercy Hospital early, early Thursday morning with Cullen for surgery to remove tonsils and adnoids. The ENT doctor thinks it just really needs to be done ASAP to help with the snoring and gasping for breath at night. He might actually sleep through the night without waking himself up trying to breathe. It involves an overnight stay so we'll be home sometime Friday. Then the long weekend with a 2 year old with a sore throat. That will be fun. So the next couple of night I am going to stock up the fridge with easy to fix meals for us and popsicles and juice for him.
I have already put my hospital knitting in a bag to take. Don't know if I'll get anything done but at the least it will give me a diversion while he is off in the OR. I am going to work on a mindless scarf my sister requested for Christmas.
I did some Christmas shopping yesterday. I actually got to OKC by myself. Went to Garden Ridge and bought new Christmas decorations for the house. Went to Old Navy for Kid's clothes, Toys R Us, and ended my day at Michaels. Got some new needles since I am trying to only knit with birch needles anymore. I needed a couple of sizes I didn't have. Bought the newest Knit It! There were a few things in there I might make. Not too impressed. But then, this magazine has never impressed me so I don't know why I bought it!

I watched the Great Garlic Cookoff on Food Network last night. Have you ever watched those cookoffs and thought I could do that?
Have a good week!

Tragedy in our Town

Yesterday here in Watonga two drifters broke into a home and shot two women. One young woman is dead and another is in serious condition with four gunshot wounds. Since our office is directly across the street from the small hospital we were in the middle of all the ambulances and life flights. It was terrible.

Of course our little town was swarming with reporters and Oklahoma Bureau of Investigation vehicles.
The young girl in the hospital is the mother of two small chldren who were in the house during all of this but unharmed. She cuts hair here and is well known in the community.
Now the aftermath - why were they here in Watonga? What made them pick that house?

This turned out great in the crock pot this weekend.
SALSA CHICKEN
4-5 boneless chicken breasts
1 large can cream of chicken soup
1 can chicken broth
2 cups salsa
1 chopped onion, optional
2 cans Ranch style Beans
1 soup can of water
Throw it all in the crock pot. Cook 6 hours and serve over rice.
